John G. Goettler

John served as President of the St. John’s Health Foundation from 2013 through 2022. During his tenure, John successfully positioned SJHF as one of the leading non-profits in Teton County. One of the projects of which he is most proud is the success of the Sage Living campaign. Through a three-way partnership comprised of securing SPET support from Teton County, a $9 million contribution from St. John’s Health and the record-setting $19 million philanthropic contributions raised by the Foundation, Sage Living was built as a state-of-the-art senior living community.

As Covid swept our country and county, John Goettler led campaigns to fund protective equipment for hospital employees and to provide grants to employees for any hardships they may be facing. In co-partnership with the Community Foundation of Jackson Hole, John created the Mental Health JH pilot program that provided over 5,000 behavioral health sessions for community residents and earned the Non-Profit of the Year award from the Jackson Hole Chamber in 2021.

Along with these successes, John also raised funding for state-of-the-art capital equipment at St. John’s Health including two 3D Digital Tomosynthesis Mammography machines

John works hard to give back to our community. John is active in Jackson Hole Lunch Rotary Club and served as the President in 2021. He serves on the Endowment Board for St. John’s Episcopal Church and the First Interstate Bank Community Advisory Board.

John began his fund-raising counsel career at Goettler Associates in Columbus Ohio in 1988. While working as a consultant, he served a wide range of non-profit organizations through the conduct of campaign planning studies, development assessments, and period consulting service to annual, capital and endowment campaigns.

In 2000, John was named President of the firm and, in that capacity, he directed client engagements, managed the firm’s business development efforts and provided consulting services to a number of non-profits throughout the country.

Some notable client highlights include serving as counsel to the $100 million capital campaign for Columbus State University (Columbus, GA); campaign counsel to The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium (Columbus, OH); strategic advisor to Bon Secours Richmond Health Care System (Richmond, VA) on a system-wide philanthropic services realignment; and campaign counsel on the construction of the New Visitor’s Center at The Mark Twain House (Hartford, CT).

In his time away from work, John enjoys exploring the trails and pathways all around the beautiful Jackson Hole Wyoming landscape, floating the river, playing golf, and searching for new fishing spots.

Valerie S. Goettler

Valerie will aid Goettler Group clients with a variety of public relations and marketing strategies for annual, special project and capital fund-raising campaigns.

Valerie’s career began at the Columbus Association for the Performing Arts (CAPA) where she served as the Director of Public Relations. While devoting most of her time to raising three children, Henry, Mary Grace and Norman Peter, Valerie also continued consulting with such organizations as the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, Unique Lives and Experiences and the Upper Arlington School District. As the children grew, Valerie returned to more ful- time work with the Capital Crossroads and Discovery Special Improvement Districts.

Upon moving to Jackson, Valerie served as the Marketing Director for the Art Association of Jackson Hole before becoming a substitute teacher in the Teton County School District. For the past five years, Valerie has continued to pursue her passion for teaching children as a Preschool Teacher at Pumpkin Patch in Wilson. In the community, she has donated her time to the Jackson Hole Lacrosse Club, Bronc Backers, and the Jackson Hole Cupboard.

Valerie continues to make family her number one priority but is always happy to escape into the great outdoors. She loves hiking on the trails all over Jackson, floating the river, and going on adventures with her friends and family.
